Farming Iron Ore
Iron Ore sits in the same Cave of Echoes as copper — enter from the Misty Shores beach and look for grey gems growing out of rocks. A reliable spawn area is as far right as you can go after entering from Misty Shores.
You need a Copper Pickaxe to break iron deposits, which itself costs 3 Copper Bars and 1,000 coins at the Howling Hammer. That ordering is why the pickaxe is the standard first upgrade.
